The ballet tells the story of Lise, a farm girl who is determined to marry her true love, village spunk Colas. However her mother, the widow Simone, is equally determined that she will marry Alain, son of the wealthy landowner, Farmer Thomas. Alain is a simpleton, with no social graces and is more in love with his red umbrella than he is with Lise! This leads to a number of amusing situations and some glorious dancing, including a dance for the rooster and his harem of hens, several impressive dances with ribbons and a Clog dance!

"La Fille" is the oldest surviving ballet in the classical repertoire. Its first performance was given in 1789 in Bordeaux , the year of the French Revolution and it has been performed in a number of different versions with different music ever since. The most often seen version now is that of Sir Frederick Ashton, created for the Royal ballet in 1960.

Ringwood Ballet has an enviable reputation for its annual productions and we invite you to join us in December at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood to enjoy an evening of dance featuring this full length classical ballet performed by our senior and middle school classical students.

Our professional staff are wonderfully supported by the volunteer crews making the magnificent sets and costumes - this is a true community production!
